Tools
- Soft brush
- Clean cloth or sponge
Safety
- Switch off and unplug the dishwasher before cleaning.
- Allow hot water or recently run components to cool before handling.
- Wear gloves if the filter contains sharp food fragments or broken glass.
- Do not force the filter; check the appliance manual if it will not twist or lift out easily.
Steps
Step 1: Disconnect power
- Switch off the dishwasher and unplug it from the outlet.
Check: Confirm that the dishwasher cannot start before continuing.
Step 2: Remove the lower rack
- Open the dishwasher and slide the lower rack out of the way.
Check: Make sure the filter area at the bottom of the tub is accessible.
Step 3: Remove the filter
- Turn the filter counterclockwise or release its locking tabs, depending on the model.
- Lift the filter out carefully.
Check: If the filter does not move easily, stop and consult the appliance manual.
Step 4: Wash the filter
- Rinse the filter under warm running water.
- Gently scrub away stuck-on debris with a soft brush.
- Avoid using abrasive tools that could damage the filter.
Check: Check that the mesh and openings are clear of food particles and grease.
Step 5: Clean the filter housing
- Wipe debris from the filter housing and surrounding area with a damp cloth or sponge.
- Remove any visible food particles from the sump area without pushing them deeper.
Check: Confirm that the housing is reasonably clean and free of loose debris.
Step 6: Reinstall the filter
- Place the filter back into its housing.
- Turn it clockwise or secure its tabs until it locks firmly in place.
- Slide the lower rack back into position.
Check: Verify that the filter is level, secure, and cannot be lifted out without unlocking it.
Step 7: Reconnect and test
- Plug the dishwasher back in.
- Run a short rinse cycle if needed to check operation.
Check: Confirm that the dishwasher runs normally and that there are no leaks or unusual noises.
