Tie a Tie
Place the tie around your neck, cross the wide end over the narrow end, wrap and bring it up through the neck loop, then pass it down through the front loop and tighten neatly.

- Tighten the tie gently so it is snug but not restrictive around your neck.
- Stand in front of a mirror to avoid awkward pulling or twisting.
- Keep fingers clear when tightening the knot to avoid pinching the fabric or skin.
Steps
Step 1: Prepare the tie
- Lift your shirt collar and drape the tie around your neck.
- Place the wide end on your dominant-hand side and the narrow end on the other side.
- Start with the wide end hanging lower than the narrow end, usually about 8-12 inches lower.
Check: The tie is not twisted. · The wide end hangs noticeably lower than the narrow end.
Step 2: Cross the wide end over the narrow end
- Bring the wide end across the front of the narrow end.
- Hold the crossing point loosely near your collar with one hand.
Check: The wide end is now in front of the narrow end. · You are holding the crossing point near the center of your collar.
Step 3: Wrap the wide end behind and around
- Pass the wide end behind the narrow end.
- Bring it back across the front from the same side to create the front of the knot.
Check: A simple loop has formed around the narrow end. · There is a loose front band where the knot will take shape.
Step 4: Bring the wide end up through the neck loop
- Lift the wide end up toward your neck.
- Pass it up through the loop between the tie and your collar from underneath.
Check: The wide end has come up through the neck loop. · The knot area remains centered under your chin.
Step 5: Pass the wide end down through the front loop
- Take the wide end and insert it down through the loose front loop you created.
- Pull the wide end downward gently to form the knot.
Check: The wide end slides through the front loop cleanly. · A visible knot has formed at the collar.
Step 6: Tighten and adjust
- Hold the narrow end and slide the knot upward with your other hand.
- Tighten the knot until it sits snugly against the collar.
- Lower your shirt collar and straighten the tie so the knot is centered.
Check: The knot is centered under your collar. · The tie feels snug but comfortable. · The wide end ideally reaches near your belt line.
