- Shake out or set aside washable items for laundering.
- Put on gloves and gather all tools and cleaners in one place.
Check: The bathroom is uncluttered and easy to access. · Ventilation is running before you start spraying cleaners.
Step 2: Dry dust and remove loose debris
- Dust light fixtures, vents, baseboards, and shelves with a dry cloth.
- Wipe hair and loose debris from counters, around the toilet, and corners.
- Vacuum or sweep the floor before using any wet cleaner.
Check: Dust, hair, and loose dirt are removed. · The floor is free of debris before mopping.
Step 3: Apply cleaner to high-build-up areas
- Spray tub, shower walls, faucet areas, sink, and toilet exterior with the appropriate cleaner.
- Apply toilet bowl cleaner inside the bowl under the rim.
- Let cleaners sit for the label-recommended time so soap scum and grime loosen.
Check: Each surface has the correct cleaner applied. · Cleaner has had time to dwell before scrubbing.
Step 4: Clean mirrors and glass
- Spray glass cleaner onto a cloth or directly onto the mirror lightly.
- Wipe from top to bottom in overlapping strokes.
- Buff dry to remove streaks.
Check: The mirror is free of spots, toothpaste flecks, and streaks.
Step 5: Clean the sink and counter
- Scrub the sink basin, faucet, drain area, and handles with a sponge or cloth.
- Use a grout brush or old toothbrush around faucet bases and seams if buildup remains.
- Wipe counters, backsplash, and frequently touched items such as soap dispensers.

Check: The sink and counter feel smooth, not gritty or sticky. · There is no visible toothpaste, soap residue, or water spotting.
Step 6: Scrub the shower and tub
- Scrub walls, doors, fixtures, and the tub or shower floor from top to bottom.
- Use baking soda on a damp sponge for stubborn soap scum if needed.
- Brush grout lines and corners where mildew or buildup collects.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry fixtures to reduce spotting.
Check: Soap scum, residue, and visible grime are removed. · Cleaner is rinsed off and surfaces are not slippery.
Step 7: Clean and disinfect the toilet
- Scrub the toilet bowl thoroughly with a toilet brush, including under the rim, then flush.
- Wipe the tank handle, lid, seat, rim, outside of the bowl, and base with disinfectant.
- Use a separate cloth or paper towels for the toilet area if possible.
Check: The bowl is clean with no visible ring or residue. · The seat, handle, and base have been disinfected.
Step 8: Wipe touchpoints and small surfaces
- Disinfect door handles, light switches, cabinet pulls, and other frequently touched surfaces.
- Wipe shelves, towel bars, and the outside of cabinets if dusty or spotted.
Check: High-touch areas have been cleaned and disinfected. · No dusty or visibly marked small surfaces remain.
Step 9: Clean the floor
- Spot-clean corners and around the toilet base first.
- Mop the floor with warm water and appropriate floor cleaner, working toward the door.
- Allow the floor to dry fully before replacing mats.
Check: The floor is visibly clean with no hair or sticky spots. · The floor is drying safely and is not left slippery.
Step 10: Reset the bathroom
- Empty the trash and replace the liner.
- Put back clean towels, mats, and toiletries neatly.
- Do a final walkthrough for missed spots, streaks, or residue.
Check: The bathroom is dry, organized, and ready to use. · No cleaner residue or strong chemical smell remains.
